This volume represents the final definitive report on the archaeological work carried out at Spynie Palace between 1986 and 1994.

The book is the proceedings of a conference organized by the Society of Antiquarics of Scotland and Historic Scotland, with specially commissioned additional contributions, photographs-and illustrations.

The papers and visits offered at the Royal Dunfermline Conference have been put into permanent form in this volume, and have been supplemented by other papers in order to give a rounded view of medieval and early modern Dunfermline.
