An expensive phone that does not hold any of the promises.

Purchased in July 2012, I have been using it with German software in a "non-hostile" environment, i.e. only very little workshop use.
The rubber is completely gone now (started to go off 4 months after purchase) which means it's not waterproof anymore, the sound quality gets worse and worse (both mic and speakers), sometimes the system crashes and reboots (which is incredibly annoying since it happens mainly during phone calls). Moreover the software is completely outdated and is not being supported anymore, or at least so it seems, since customer support does not respond... ever. This software only has very limited space for phone book entries, calender entries, mails, messages, just name it, despite having 16GB of added flash memory, thus rendering it completely unusable as a "smart"-"phone".

In short: A total waste of time and money.

After less an hour, the phone became mad..... search - find - loose the network infinite loop ..... remove the battery and disable the UMTS. OK fine without 3G.

After less than one year in standard city environment the plastic sheath unstick.. then, impermeability is gone and the phone looks crap !

Don't buy this expensive and crap phone....

I bought the xp300 phone 2 years ago, just for phoning because it was strong and resilient. Have not had any technical difficulties or battery problem. It is the case that its enclosed in that has broken. Sent it away for repair 2 weeks ago and have not received it back. I have tried to chase it up but the customer service never replies. Can anyone give me advise how to get my phone back.

NEVER EVER BUY A SONIM !!!
endless problems, see below emails I sent:

                    Dear Mr. XXX,

                    Further to our eMails dated from 27.July 2012 to 30.October 2012 (last, 30.10.2012 15:53 )

I wish to let you know that I am indeed unhappy.
I still have serious problems with my Sonim phone:

                    1)
                    ITALIAN Network : "searching"

Please kindly look at below 3 videos. They are self-explanatory.

When ever I go to ITALY, I got this recurrent issue: my Sonim "searching" continusly
I cannot even switch off my sonim. it is just getting "mad".

This happen only with any Italian network.
I have been to the following countries and my sonim works well: Hong-Kong, Macao, Singapore, China, France, Germany, Austria.

                    2)
Not possible to change preferences ( Priority )

In the Menu - Settings - Network settings - PREFERENCES,
I mean, In some Geneva aera, we can get French networks as well as the Swiss one.
It is just impossible to setup the prefererences ( for instance Swiss one ), each time I do I got the message : "Unfinished"
Consequently, my sonim just get the newtork with the strongest signal.

I have the strong feeling that above "searching" issue is related to "Preferences".
In the preferences folder, I have a lot of predefined networks.
For instance, some Russian, country I have never been to.
I think that those pre-defined network, the italians one have wrong "data" in them and whenever I go to Italy, . . . .
I actually cannot even Delete pré-setup network : I got systematically "Unfinished"

                    3) My sonim does not keep my out-going SMS messages.
                    Menu - Messages - Outbox - >>> nothing

                    4) Key 3 DEF + Key 6 MNO

Most of the time both are not lighted , or sometimes they blink and then idle.

Please kindly let me know what action you wish to take.

Looking forward to your kind reply,

                    Best regards,
                    Pascal

Ok so after 3 months banging my head off the wall here is the reply I received from Sonim this week.

Thank you very much for purchasing the ultra rugged Sonim XP5300! The GPS application “City Cruiser” is unfortunately no longer available for installation from the vendor Atlas CT. The app had been provided by Atlas CT as “trialware”, and they decided not to continue the offer. The Sonim phones support mobile Java (J2ME), and other GPS applications like “mgmaps” or “trekbuddy” may run on the Sonim as well, but we have not tested any specific GPS app.

                      I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

                      Thank you!

So as consumer's where now do we stand! as city cruiser was included with original product, and as you see no replacement application,

                          @Huwy

Your problem is Bluetooth firmware issue, I had the same problem (phone initially pairing to in-car system, but then immediately disconnecting-seemed to be related to downloading contacts) and it was solved by a firmware update to the 'phone.

I receently purchased A Sonim XP5300 which sells under Landrover S2, but when I use the blue toothe hands free connection, it connects then disconnects immediately. THe company I bought it off, Sonim and Landrover just sending me round in circles blaming each other, and not wanting to do anything about it.
