For Pixel 8a GrapheneOS prerelease is available, that's why.

But then later I searched in Playstore and was able to install Gemini Assistant. It replaced the standard Google Assistant. Maybe its being rolled out to 8a gradually?

Man I love Pixel software, but they gotta fix their CPU BS. On top of that:
- No double tap to sleep option on home screen.
- No casting your screen to a TV (unless you have a Chromecast, which is also BS).
- Did I mention the slow ass CPU ???
- The non-removable Google search bar & At a Glance widgets right in your home screen. (Yay! I love not being able to customize my phone! - might as well get an S24 for $200 more lol)

Very good phone did the pre order been using it for 2 days since getting it, very solid for the budget it's at, but one thing I have to say is that the screen is not 2000 nits peak, because been comparing it to my note10plus and the screen on the note10 is much brighter, and I use both phones under bright sunlight and both where at environment that it wasn't hot but note 10 was considerably brighter but can still see under direct sunlight with the pixel, just don't expect it to be bright at least on my experience.

The new lauch of 8a doesn't have any surprises. Better than 7a by 120hrtz refresh rate and ips67 protection and lighter by 5gms which is not a big deal. 7a serves better at a better cost👍

On a more serious note, bezel width is essentially meaningless since most serious users immediately put a case on a phone for protection. Some phones are even so slippery that it is nearly impossible to prevent them from slipping out of a hand or sliding off of a slightly tilted surface.
I use a red Spigen Rugged Armor on my red 2020 iPhone SE and I think the cased phone looks better than the uncased phone.
The same thing will apply with this 8a with the cased item being both safer and better looking than the uncased item.
That said, overall this is a very well designed phone for most users and I fell for Apple when it tries to compete with it when the 2025 SE comes out in early 2025. Even if it can compete with it the 9a will then only be a few weeks away.

The Pixel 7a was $499 on release last year but dur... moreThe 7 year support is great but I honestly think people will hit their storage limit in that time maybe requiring a new phone anyway unless you purchase cloud storage. Taking photos, apps getting bigger with each update as well as Android getting bigger with each update means I don't think you have to be a heavy user to go from a 64gb phone to filling a 128gb phone and that's also not taking into account battery degradation and needing to change that during this time period.

But when pixel 8a drops in price or even if you get the phone after a whole year, u still have a phone with 6 years of OS updates left. That is a huge value and after 1 year, pixel 8a will be priced around $200 to $300 less than pixel 8 probably given the current pricing of pixel 7 and pixel 7a. Right now pixel 8a does not make sense, but after a few months it will be a great value deal

When comparing a Samsung and Google phone, Samsung usually has better hardware while Google has better software which is not the case here. 8a has a better processor and display while Samsung has better materials such as better front glass protection. The pixel 8a might be a better choice given 7 years of OS updates, timely updates, better processor capabilities, AI features, slow but still has 7.5W wireless charging, and better software stability and experience. Personally, I find Pixel UI better than OneUI but you should try out both before deciding. Software experience is just as important as hardware capabilities
