By the time Twilight hit theaters on November 21, 2008, readers of Stephenie Meyer's original four-volume Twilight Saga had already fallen in love with bookish Bella Swan and her cold-skinned, warmhearted boyfriend Edward Cullen on the page. Director Catherine Hardwicke's blue-tinted adaptation perfectly captured the drizzly magic of Meyer's forbidden interspecies romance, but more importantly for the franchise, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart quickly won fans over with their onscreen portrayal of Edward and Bella. Successfully casting Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), the Cullen family, and Bella’s Forks High School friends was no small feat either—yet, in retrospect, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the roles. With the exception of Stewart and Nikki Reed, who’d already starred in films like Panic Room and Thirteen respectively, showcasing mostly-new faces proved an inspired choice. While you may be wondering what a few of the actors are up to today, some like Anna Kendrick, have become stars and you can currently watch Christian Serratos star in Selena: The Series, while Robert Pattinson is freakin' Batman.
While hopes for a Midnight Sun movie with the O.G. lineup remain slim, you can rewatch all the Twilight movies in order as they hit Netflix on July 16. It's time to get yourself back in that Twihard state of mind: Pop on the still-flawless Twilight soundtrack and check out this roundup of the Twilight cast then and now.
Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan)
In the 13 years since the first Twilight movie, Stewart's career as a movie star has continued full force. Appearing in a mix of indie films, blockbusters such as the 2019 Charlie's Angels reboot, and the rom-com The Happiest Season. Next, she'll star as Princess Diana in Spencer.
Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen)
Prior to scoring the role of Edward, Pattinson had few screen credits to his name (though we'll never forget Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Like his ex Stewart, Robert Pattinson has kept very busy, earning critical praise for performances in films like Good Time, The Lighthouse, and Tenet. In 2022, we'll get to see him play a deeply gritty Bruce Wayne in The Batman.
Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black)
Lautner played Jacob, Edward's romantic rival (until he...imprinted on Edward's daughter, that is). Most recently since then, he had regular roles on Scream Queens and British sitcom Cuckoo—and you can always keep up with him on Instagram.
Anna Kendrick (Jessica Stanley)
Kendrick has likened the "cold and miserable" experience of shooting Twilight to a "hostage situation," and another time completely forgot she was in the first four movies altogether. But the movie did help put Kendrick on the map, so there's that at least. Since then, the Oscar-nominated actress has starred in other monster hit franchises like Pitch Perfect and Trolls, as well as series Dummy and Love Life.
Christian Serratos (Angela Weber)
Prior to playing Bella's high school buddy Angela, Christian Serratos was a Nickelodeon kid, playing Suzie Crabgrass on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Since then, she's best known as Rosita Espinosa on The Walking Dead, and as the eponymous late Mexican pop star Selena Quintanilla on Netflix's Selena: The Series. She's mother to a daughter named Wolfgang with her husband, singer David Boyd.
Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale)
Reed played the gorgeous, prickly Rosalie Hale, her second collaboration with director Catherine Hardwicke after Thirteen (the two shared a screenwriting credit). When not running her lifestyle and jewelry brand, BaYou with Love, Reed still acts. In 2019, she returned to the world of vampires, appearing in the one-season V-Wars alongside her husband Ian Somerhalder.
Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen)
Fun fact: The actor who played Emmett was originally asked to read for the role of Edward. After the Twilight Series, Lutz starred in movies including The Legend of Hercules, Extraction, and the Lara Croft-ish 7 Guardians of the Tomb. He currently stars on FBI: Most Wanted on CBS.
Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen)
Though she originally auditioned to play Bella, Greene was perfect as Edward's psychic sister Alice. Greene married Australian TV personality Paul Khoury in 2018, with her friend Robert Pattinson in attendance. In recent years, Hallmark Christmas movie fans have probably spotted Greene starring in a few, such as 2020's The Charm Bracelet.
Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale)
Rathbone's post-Twilight work includes a role on the TV show The Last Ship and the upcoming movie Mixtape alongside Modern Family's Julie Bowen; he's also a musician as well. When Rathbone married wife Sheila Hafsadi in 2013, Nikki Reed was in the wedding party.
Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen)
Facinelli was one of the higher-profile actors in the first Twilight movie, and has worked often since then, acting in movies and shows like Glee, Nurse Jackie, Supergirl, and SWAT. Despite his busy schedule, he told PEOPLE in 2020 that he'd return to the role of the Cullen family patriarch "in a heartbeat."
Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen)
After Esme Cullen, Reaser may be best known for playing grown-up funeral home director Shirley Crain in the Netflix hit The Haunting of Hill House. She's also popped up on prestige shows like The Handmaid's Tale, True Detective, and Mad Men.
Billy Burke (Charlie Swan)
Burke played Bella's father Charlie Swan, the gruff Chief of Police in Forks. His many appearances since then include recurring roles on shows like 9-1-1: Lone Star, Zoo, and Maid. And Pattinson isn't the only Twilight alum in the DC universe, as Burke voiced Commissioner Gordon in 2021's Batman: The Long Halloween.
