In the Inuysha sequel, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, some of the original characters are quickly shown to have fallen on hard times. Trapped inside a supernatural black pearl, Inuyasha and Kagome are separated from their daughter Moroha, while Sesshomaru visits his comatose wife Rin, who he has to keep inside The Tree of Ages for safekeeping. With such bad luck having befallen these four important characters, fans of Inuyasha and Yashahime can’t help but wonder whether other favorites, such as demon-slaying siblings Sango and Kohaku, have also experienced a cruel fate.

Since Sango and Kokaku went through plenty of hardships back in Inuyasha, it would be quite sad if they were dealt a similar hand in Yashahime. Having been strung along as a mind-controlled puppet by previous arch-villain Naraku for so long, Kohaku especially could use some happiness and tranquility after such a traumatizing experience. So, what happens to the sister and brother in Yashahime, and is their luck any different this time?

Where is Sango?

In Yashahime, it’s soon revealed that Sango has married Miroku and had three children, comprised of twin daughters Kin’u and Gyokuto, followed by son Hisui. Being a stay-at-home mom, she no longer hunts and slays demons full-time, especially since her husband is too busy “achieving enlightenment” and “divine power” through a thousand days of intense training. At present, she resides in her childhood Yokai Taijiya village, where she and their children await his return. However, as early as Yashahime‘s first episode, we see that she has no problem re-donning the demon-slayer mantle when disaster comes knocking at her door, willing to do whatever it takes to defend her family and friends.

However, in everyday life during Yashahime, Sango spends most of her time balancing her job as a supernatural weapon-forger with her role as a primary caregiver. She has passed her old boomerang Hiraikotsu on to Hisui and now uses Black Hiraikotsu, a spiritually altered version of the original, as her new battle weapon in times of urgency.

Where is Kohaku?

Just like his older sister, Kohaku is also busy following his dreams in Yashahime. However, he’s chosen a different path, serving as a full-time demon slayer and mentor to demon-slayer apprentices. An attack by a preying-mantis demon has left the bridge of his nose permanently scarred, but he is otherwise in tip-top shape, thriving in his career as the leader of The Yokai Taijiya. Ultimately, he’s finding fulfillment through protecting innocent lives and teaching new demon slayers, including nephew Hisui. His new life in Yashahime is obviously a welcome change from his horrible experiences under Naraku’s control in Inuyasha.
