Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has finally joined Instagram, and has managed to garner over 4.5 million followers and counting within 14 hours. Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg is one her of her followers.

Deeply disturbed by the events in Afghanistan, the 'Eternals' star said that she will use the platform to share voices of various people living in the country. She expressed concerns for the people of Afghanistan who are losing their ability to communicate or express freely on social media.

"I’ve come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights," the 46-year-old Oscar-winning actress wrote.

Her first post was a letter from a teenage Afghan girl, who fears living in the country after Taliban took over the country. In the letter, theyoung girl detailed her difficulties of going to school in the current situation.

"We all had rights, we (were) able to defend our rights freely, but when they came, we are all afraid of them, and we think all our dreams are gone," the girl wrote.

The Taliban swept into Kabul on Sunday after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, bringing a stunning end to a two-decade campaign in which the US and its allies had tried to transform Afghanistan.

It has sparked chaos at Kabul's airport, from where America and allied nations are trying to safely evacuate thousands of their citizens and allies.

The 'Maleficent' actress also remembered an incident from 20 years ago when she was on the border of Afghanistan two weeks before 9/11, where she had met Afghan refugees who had fled the Taliban.

"It is sickening to watch Afghans being displaced yet again out of the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their country. To spend so much time and money, to have blood shed and lives lost only to come to this, is a failure almost impossible to understand," she added in her caption.

Calling them as the most-capable people in the world, Jolie said it is sickening to watch the Afghan refugees being treated like a burden for decades. She felt that if they had the tools and respect, they could have done a lot for themselves. "Meeting so many women and girls who not only wanted an education, but fought for it," she wrote.

"Like others who are committed, I will not turn away. I will continue to look for ways to help. And I hope you’ll join me," she concluded her post.

Since her debut, Jolie's first post has received nearly 1.5 million likes on Instagram. She also shared an Instagram Story. Showing the dire state of women and children in Afghanistan, she shared a glimpse of her opinion piece in Time, titled "The people of Afghanistan deserve so much better than this".
